Tips for Traveling with Medications
WWW.CANADAMEDICINESHOP.COM
The summer sun is shining and your bags are at the door ready to go. You have made sure to double check everything, twice. Do you have enough of your cholesterol, insulin or arthritis medications? Your trip will not be as much fun without your over-the-counter or prescription remedies. While traveling on a cruise ship or visiting your summer home, here are a few ways to ensure you have your medications when you need them:
Bring the Prescription
Ask your physician to write a prescription to take with you on your trip. That way if you need to replenish your supply, you have your prescription on hand.Bring a Note from Your PhysicianHave your physician write a letter stating all of the medications and over-the-counter items that you are currently taking, including name, dosage and reason for taking the medication. Recently, with increased airport security, there is higher concern with what is in your bag. This may pose a particular concern for those who require medical equipment, such as syringes to inject your medication
Bring Extra
Bring an extra supply of your prescription or over-the-counter medications in case you misplace or spill some. This will ensure you have enough to last your entire trip and additional supply in case your trip is extended for any purpose. Some medications are not dispensed in other countries, making it difficult to get a prescription filled away from home.
Pack Medications in a Carry-on-Bag
Always keep your medication with you while traveling. You may need to take your medication in transit. If there is an unexpected delay in your plane departing for example, you will want access to your medication(s) if needed. Also, the temperature in a plane's cargo space or in the trunk of a car may vary and your medication should not be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
Bring your Own Water
There are a number of regions in the world that do not have safe drinking water. If you need to take your medication with food or water, be sure to bring your own bottled water or snack or carry change to purchase from a convenience store or vending machine. Always be cautious when purchasing these items - be sure they do not have un-sealed water bottles or opened packaging. Now you are ready for anything your trip has to offer.
Enjoy your trip - Bon Voyage
